Giving Back During the Holidays 10/29/07 Jessica Kersey, Director, Administration and Business Development
Fall is here and everywhere you turn one thing is clear, the holidays are upon us! As you get ready to start your Christmas list, I challenge all of you to get creative with your gifts. There are many nonprofit organizations who offer unique ways to support a worthy cause and give back during the holidays. Here is a list of just a few that I have found:
MUSC Kids Holiday Cards- These adorable cards drawn by patients at MUSC Children's Hospital will warm your's and the recipient's heart.
Water Missions International Christmas Catalog- Are you tired of flipping through catalog after catalog searching for the perfect gift? Look no further! Water Missions International Christmas catalog offers gifts at all donation levels so your recipient will know what your gift in their honor has done. For example, you can give enough money to provide clean water to a person for a year.
Adopt a Family- There are many programs during the Christmas season in which you can adopt a family. Trio Solutions did this in lieu of office gifts one year. Our staff had a wonderful time shopping together and wrapping the presents for our family.
Post and Courier Good Cheer Fund- Give a donation in honor of someone to the Post and Courier Good Cheer Fund, and they will see their name in the paper the very next day. If you don't live in Charleston, check out your local paper to see if they have a similar program. All donations go directly back to organizations in our community.
The Gift of Time- Instead of spending the day at the mall, why not spend a Saturday volunteering? There are too many worthy organizations in our community for me to list, but the opportunities to give of your time are endless. Invite a friend or your family to participate too.
