Trio Solutions Races for the Cure
Fall 2006 e-Newsletter
Jessica Kersey, Director, Administration and Business Development
On October 21, 2006, the Trio Solutions team took part in the Komen Charleston Race for the Cure®. For some participants, our local race may be the only exposure they have with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. This is certainly not the case for the all-female staff at Trio Solutions Inc. Finding a cure for breast cancer is a cause that our office is extremely proud to be part of.
As the marketing and public relations chair for this year's race, I am excited to have this opportunity to share my experience about the Komen Charleston Race for the Cure®. The race has been an annual event for the Charleston-metro area for more than a decade. A few years ago, the race moved venues from Downtown Charleston to Daniel Island and this year is particularly exciting as we have teamed up with the Family Circle Tennis Center. The 5000-plus race participants gathered on the Family Circle grounds for the start and finish of the race.
It is hard to believe the race is over. My year serving on the race committee went by quickly, but the volunteers and survivors I have worked with will stay with me forever. I have always had a tendency to be what some may call, "volunteer happy". In high school and college, you could count on me to sign my name on most volunteer sheets that floated around. Many of these were one-time events and I never had the opportunity to form a lasting relationship with the organizations.
The difference with this volunteer opportunity is that I do look forward to a long-term relationship, along with my colleagues at Trio Solutions, with the Lowcountry Komen Affiliate. Serving on the race committee has been hard work, but fun and rewarding at the same time. Additionally, I could not have done it without the support of the whole team at Trio. It is a wonderful feeling to know your coworkers are behind you 100 percent when you take on such a big commitment. Over the past year our team has collectively donated more than 100 in-kind service hours to the Lowcountry Komen Affiliate.
I hope that some of you participated in the race this year. If you didn't do it this year, next year please make sure to stay for the survivor celebration after the race. You will see all the people whose lives you touched. Visit www.komenlowcountry.org to learn more or find ways that you can volunteer.
